Inter-university ‘Singing Competition’ - Spring Splash 2015


Preston University organized an inter-university ‘Singing Competition’. The referenced competition was held under the ongoing mega event of the University “Spring Splash 2015”. Eminent playback singer Humaira Channa was the chief guest on the occasion. Popular folk singers Javed Niazi and Babar Niazi and playback singer Sonia Azeem were the Judges of the competition. The singing competition was divided into two categories, male and female. The universities which took part in the female category of the competition were: Punjab University, Lahore, Hamdard University, Islamabad, Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad, Preston University Islamabad and Peshawar and PINSAT Islamabad. In the male category, the participating universities were: Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi, Institute of Space Technology, Islamabad, Punjab University, Lahore, Hamdard University, Islamabad, Abasyn University, Peshawar and Preston University Islamabad, Kohat and Lahore.

The students of the participating universities enthralled the jubilant audience comprising of students, staff and faculty of Preston University and other guests by their remarkable singing talent. The brilliant performances of the participating students left the chief guest of occasion, eminent singer Humaira Channa and the judges totally spellbound. In fact, it became difficult for the judges of the competition to determine the first, second and third positions.



In the female category of the competition, Naushaba Anjum of Preston University, Peshawar outclassed her counterparts from other universities with her brilliant performance to win the first prize.

The second prize was grabbed by Javeria Shoaib of Preston University, Islamabad. Third prize in the competition was awarded to Thecla Trinity of Preston Institute of Nano Science and Technology (PINSAT) Islamabad. In male category of the singing competition, Ali Hassan of Punjab University, Lahore beat his counterparts from other participating universities out-and-out and was adjudged the best singer by the judges and awarded first prize. Second prize in the male category of the competition was grabbed by Imran Ali of Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi won the 2nd prize. The 3rd prize was awarded to M. Sajjawal of Hamdard University, Islamabad.

 
 




In her brief remarks on occasion, chief guest Ms. Humaira Channa, singer of international renown, profoundly praised the singing prowess of the students of the participating universities. She said it was simply outstanding. The judges of the competition eminent folk singers Javed Niazi and Babar Niazi and Ms. Sonia Azim also immensely appreciated the singing talent of the competing students. With a little more grooming they could even perform better, the judges maintained.

 

The Chancellor of Preston University, Dr. Abdul Basit who was conspicuous by his presence at the event said that the performance of the participating students was excellent. 



He fully endorsed the views of the chief guest Ms. Humaira Channa and the judges that with a little more grooming these students could do extremely well in the art of singing and earn laurels for their respective institutions and for the country. Later, prizes were distributed among the winners of both categories of the inter-university singing competition

Inter-University ‘Drama Competition’ - Spring Splash 2015
 
Preston University organized an inter-university drama competition. Theme of the drama competition was “Paisa Phek Tamasha Dekh”. The referenced competition was held organized as part of the university’s mega annual event ‘Spring Splash 2015’. The universities which took part in the drama competition were: Punjab University, Lahore and Preston University Islamabad and Peshawar campuses. Eminent TV compeer and actress Ms. Ayesha Sana presided over the event as chief guest. The competition was adjudicated by eminent TV and Theatre personalities Mr. Khawar Lone, Mr. Anjum Malik, Ms. Lubna Shehzadi. 



The students of the participating universities enthralled the exuberant audience comprising of students, staff and faculty of Preston University and other guests by their outstanding acting talent. The scintillating performances of the participating teams made it extremely difficult for the judges of the competition to determine the first, second and third positions. In the drama competition performance of the team of PunjabUniversity, Lahore was adjudged the best by the judges and was awarded first position. Second best performance was that of the team of Preston University, Islamabad which was awarded second position in the competition. The team of Preston University, Peshawar stood third in this competition.

In her brief comments on occasion, chief guest Ms. Ayesha Sana, eminent TV compeer and actress said that the acting talent of the students of the participating universities was indeed remarkable. She said that the youth of Pakistan is extremely talented and if opportunities were provided to them to show their talent they could do very well not only in the field of acting but in every sphere of life.






In his brief remarks on the occasion, Chancellor Preston University, Dr. Abdul Basit said that the acting capabilities of the students who participated in the inter-university drama competition were
 undoubtedly outstanding. He fully endorsed the views of the chief guest of the occasion
Ms. Ayesha Sana and the judges of the competition that the Pakistani youth are extremely talented. He said that the government of Pakistan should provide ample opportunities to the youth of this country to unleash their talent in all spheres of national life and make Pakistan stand out conspicuously in the comity of successful world nations.
